Firstly, welcome to my website & blog. I started the website when I first published my debut novel, Everdene, in February 2015. The idea was it was more of a site to promote my novel/s. Later that year, my life changed suddenly with the tragic death of my Mum. As is often the case, events like these are a catalyst for change. In an effort to distract myself from the ongoing legal things, but also a way to focus on the future, I made the decision to start up the ‘Life is Short Challenge‘.
My debut novel was Everdene, the first novel released in the Classic Cliterature Series – new novels based on classics from English Literature (but not mash-ups of the public domain work – all the words are new). This series uses the ‘bare-bones’ of a classic novel’s plot and character’s traits and brings them into a contemporary environment, spiced up, and with deleted bits that are no longer relevant to modern day, or additional bits. The aim was to provide my readers with contemporary erotic romance novels while encouraging the reading of the original classics and then compare them (great for book club discussions).
While I was originally working on the next novel in the Classic Cliterature Series, my writing time is now mostly devoted to a bigger project which will be a historical/fantasy romance from the ‘Dark Ages era’ of the Vikings, Picts and Saxons. I also have a few short stories that I’ve released under a new pen-name. As I find the contemporary romances quite fun to write, and readers seem to love them, I do have another project on the go as well, which will hopefully come out in 2020.
To keep myself writing every day, and make this less of a ‘promote me’ kind of site, I’m also going to add blog posts on the site about all sorts of things that I’m interested in or I am doing in life. So far I’ve done it via Facebook posts, or 160 character Twitter messages, but sometimes it’s just fun to write some more.
Hope you enjoy the site, and if you want to follow my blog posts, just hit the Follow Blog button. If you’re interested in finding out about my novel release dates, special offers and/or the Life is Short challenge, then use the sign-up to email news in the top right corner.
Here is the ‘official’ bio that’s on most of the retailer sites:
I always loved writing and making up stories as a child, and more than anything, loved reading. Now I write for adults and have thousands of books filling every bookcase in my house (at last count that was 12 bookcases). Re-reading Thomas Hardy back in 2013, at the same time as reading a Sylvia Day book, started the idea for Everdene and I went back over short stories I had written in the past – and now there’s a 400 page novel! When I’m not working at the day job, I’m either writing, going for a walk around the many open spaces in my part of London, or reading.
or in the book:
Melanie Hoskin lives in London, and Everdene is her debut novel, and the first in the Classic Cliterature Series. She always loved writing stories as a child and finally set aside the time to write a novel. Inspired by classic literature, as well as raunchy romances, her bookshelves are filled with thousands of books. When she isn’t writing, working hard at the day job, or reading, she’s probably travelling or watching International Rugby (or both).
