While I’m extremely jealous that students at Hogwarts were allowed to have pet owls as cute as Hedwig, my obsession with owls started long before Harry Potter made them cool! About thirty years ago, my mum gave me an owl ornament as a gift for getting good grades at school. I called him ‘Boz’ – no idea why that was – and I still have him in the display cabinet. There was also an owl on television for the Telecom Australia (now Telstra) advertising, and his name was Beeper. I painted him on a telephone box while at school (legally I promise).
My pet owl, Snowy (courtesy of a shopping trip to Next), sits in my lounge, but there are many other owl-themed decoration around the house. At last count there are probably about 30 owl things around the house.
For the challenge, I’d like to spend a day at the Owl Rescue Centre out in Gloucestershire, but also do something to help raise funds for rehabilitation of owls, and increase awareness of the threats to the owl population.
