There are many, many designer dresses that I covet, all of which could have made the challenge list. However I’ve chosen Victoria Beckham as the final choice challenge designer for a reason.
One of life’s most important lessons is not to judge others on initial impressions, but also another lesson for ourselves is not to stay defined by a label being set, or initial criticism when you start out on something that’s new for you.
During the Spice Girl days ‘Posh Spice’ was the one in the group I was least interested in, and I admit that I rolled my eyes during the early years whenever the media wrote about her, the big wedding and even when she turned to fashion. I, like many others, thought she was trading on her name and collaborating with someone who would do all the work and she would get the credit.
Yet over the last decade I’ve read interviews, increasingly admired her style and work ethic, and found myself ripping out pictures of her dresses for my wishlist pinboard. Her style is classic, and there are so many pieces each collection that I love, with the latest being a dress in a magazine article that was worn by Gillian Anderson during the promotion of the re-booted X-Files.
Once I own the coveted dress, it will be very much well worn, however once it no longer fits, some lucky person will find it in an Oxfam shop, as that’s where I donate any clothing during a wardrobe de-clutter.
