At the moment this one is pencilled in for October 2017 and, depending on dates of treks, will be for either Diabetes UK or JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund). My young niece, who is mentioned in another challenge, has Type 1 diabetes and was diagnosed at the age of 3. I had the privilege of taking care of her for a week last year while my sister and brother-in-law went on honeymoon, and therefore I saw first-hand how brave she is as I administered insulin and endless pin-pricks to her fingers and thumb.
The Great Wall of China has been on the bucket list since studying Chinese history at school (which did also involve watching ‘The Last Emperor’ a few times). My only previous visit to China has been a few terrible hours in Shanghai Airport in transit, where a kind stranger brought me a burger and Coca-Cola when I was close to tears and exhaustion from hunger (due to over-crowding they seemed to have stopped serving food on the flight from London) and I could not find an ATM anywhere in the airport.
My intended extensions include Xian (Terracotta Warriors) and Chengdu (pandas).
