My Mum was fortunate to meet Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, in 2002 outside of Windsor Castle during the Golden Jubilee. There was an impromptu walkabout on the Sunday, and mum was feeding the ducks on the Thames when security came and round up various tourists and ushered them into a side gate of the Chapel.
Apparently Her Majesty asked my mum and step-dad where they visiting from, before moving on to some Canadians (maybe she didn’t believe Mum say she was visiting from Adelaide when she has an English accent). Not that it mattered, as Mum talked about those few seconds for days, weeks, months and probably years.
So to keep up the tradition into a new generation, maybe I too will get to complete this challenge and meet a member of the Royal family. I think my preference is Prince Harry, because then we can talk rugby, rather than small talk about the weather or where I am visiting from!
Edited to Add: A big thank you to the team at Sky News for searching back into the archive to get the original footage that features Mum. She can be seen in the video singing ‘God Save the Queen’ at the beginning, and then from the 2m33s part of the video (next to the Canadians) until just after the 2m45s mark.
